it could be many things. the reason for my current state of bliss. it could be the summer pj's that I am wearing for the first time since last summer. it could be the clean, crisp, gloriously smelling sheets that are rubbing up my smooth legs. it could be the smell of suncream that has been stuck to my face all day. or the fact that spending a week studying soil isn't half as bad as one might expect. it could be the still warm air that smells a bit like cooling charcoal and leftover braai meat. or the fact that I got to hug my sister twice in three days (she doesn't live close by). it could be the stiff, aching muscles that I have from good solid exercise. or the wonderful new music my best mates keep sending me. or maybe the fresh orange flavoured rooibos tea i just made. it could be the signs of spring that are becoming more frequent. or new ventures that are being undertaken with friends.
it could be many things. yes indeed it could. x

Beyond privelaged to call these people my friends.
Beyond privelaged to call these places home.
hands filled with snacks and towels, snorkels and fins we clumsily walk down the sandy path..
there is a tree-a big one, doorway to a white sandy alcove and 2 perfect, sheltered, little blue bays.
the one bay is open, with beds of sea lettuce, tongue weed and codium. like sweets on the seafloor; urchins, sponge and starfish are scattered all around. schools of little fish swim this way and that-ocassionally joined by a curious penguin.
the other bay is a forest. a kelp forest. much deeper, the dappled light hits the box jellies and sea breams speeding through the alleyways of kelp trees. with deep breaths we dive down and join them, following their routes, tumble turning under the water.
its the best thing really. being with the most wonderful of people, in a hiding place from the rest of the world, surrounded by the wild ocean and her astonishingly beautiful creatures.
followed by fluffy towels, pineapple and mint water, tired hands carry adventure equipment back past the tree and along the sandy pathway;
heads in the clouds, hearts left in the sea
snap back heart attack, you're just like a ticket to the sun!
i CANNOT describe to you just how happy i've been this last week. summer holidays are the climax of all good things and whilst there is much work to be done, this past week has been pure sea gypsy wander and wonder :)
let me tell you about some of these little pockets of sunshine:
two of my best mates came to fetch me after my last exam-we went to go eat hudsons chickpea burgers-yum :)
i've been loving my runs in the evenings, especially in the warm summer rain...
my little sister is back from uni and we've been loving the beach, the late night series and the crazy dancing!
shortstraw and al bairre played a gig in long street. IT WAS INSANE. we danced like crazzzzzy people!
there have been saturday morning markets and afternoon picnics at kirstenbosch, napping in the sun-hmmm, how lovely is that.
throwback sea days. like true little seagypies we've been spending days wondering from one beach to the next. staying for a little while-flirting with the waves, letting ourselves be kissed by the sun and then quickly scrambling over the rocks to the repeat the same at the next beach.
the best part is that only good things are too come: longer days, warmer nights, darker skin and lighter hair :)
the adventurers, sea nymphs and wild ones are quite excited about this.
and blow out your birthday candles!
happy birthday my wonderful maatjie.
i have been so blessed by your friendship these many years, and every day i am grateful for you.
i hope that the horses, the dogs, the goats and sheep all SING you happy birthday today!
i hope that you feel LOVED by the people both close and far away.
i hope that you get SPOILED with cake. lots of CAKE!
i hope that you realise just how many BLESSINGS have been bestowed on you these last 24 years.
and i hope that you get excited for all the ADVENTURES, blessings and MEMORIES that will fill the next 24 :)
i cannot describe to you just how much I LOVE YOU!!!!
thinking about you every moment of today!
hip hip hooray.
now cut the cake :)
"It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine" (as found by my lil sis charis-from the Secret Garden). lately though, it has seemed more like the rain falling on the sunshine than the other way round. but thats ok. cause the days are getting longer, the essay has been handed in, the chances of adventure are ever growing and the anticipation of summer is half the fun :)
in the mean time-we eat purple carrots, wear our beanies and keep going,we run the last stretch, see the good around us and try to bless those around us and be sunshine to them.
sea bee! you are 22!
if i think about all the incredible and crazy adventures we've packed in to the last 2 and a half years i get a little overwhealmed imagining how many more epic ones the future will hold.
happy birthday my friend. thank you for being my buddy in so many regards.
and thank you for always being willing and keen to jump into the sea.
i cant wait to see where your new adventure leads.
all my love :)
